ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Rochester city officials broke ground on three new projects in Maplewood Park this morning, aiming to enhance the park's amenities and connectivity.

The projects include the development of a Maplewood nature center, a new and improved playground, and upgrades to paths that will connect the park and nature center to the Genesee River Trail. These enhancements are part of a broader effort to encourage community engagement with nature.

"One of the greatest threats our children and families face today is the growing detachment from the actual world around them," said Mayor Malik Evans at the ceremony. "I'm hoping when people are in this park they'll take their phones, put them in their back pocket, and just enjoy what we have here."
