NEW CASTLE, Del. (WPHL) -- Police in Delaware are looking for a man accused of hitting a child with his truck, then driving away before officers arrived on the scene.

According to the New Castle County Police Department, around 7:45 p.m. Monday, August 25, officers responded to the 100 block of Delaware Drive in the Collins Park neighborhood for a reported hit-and-run involving a child pedestrian.

Investigators say the man was driving a white pickup truck, possibly a GMC or Chevrolet with an extended bed. Police noted there was a male passenger inside.

After the suspect hit the child, police said he initially stopped and got out of the truck, but got back into his vehicle and drove away before police or EMS arrived.
