MINOT, N.D. (KMOT) - Some members of the Minot City Council want to scale back on street maintenance projects and increase sales tax for property tax relief next year.

While the council has yet to act on these proposals, the topics sparked debate among the members as the 2026 budget deadline approaches.

One of the changes recommended by Mayor Mark Jantzer and Council Vice President Lisa Olson involves cutting $1 million from the $12 million for street maintenance.

Council President Mike Blessum said he believes this is a step in the right direction.

“We’re seeing what these higher numbers do, so I think it is a good time to pause and pull back,” said Blessum.
