MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Two children were killed and more than a dozen others were injured in a shooting at a Catholic school in Minnesota Wednesday morning.

Authorities rushed to the scene at Annunciation Catholic School in South Minneapolis.

The shooting took place as children and others were attending mass to mark the first week of school.

Police said the shooter was outside the church building and fired a rifle through its windows toward children and others sitting in pews.

Two children, ages 8 and 10, were killed.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey spoke to his community in a news conference.

“Don’t just say this is about thoughts and prayers right now. These kids were literally praying. It was the first week of school, they were in a church,” he said.
