HAMPTON, Va. — Hampton High’s storied football program has produced legends, but it’s been two decades since the Crabbbers last captured a state championship. That was back in the Tyrod Taylor era — a run that ended with a Virginia Tech standout who is now a veteran quarterback in the NFL.

This season, the Crabbbers’ success will ride on the arm and leadership of junior quarterback Marcus Chapman, who’s quickly becoming one of the most talked-about players in the Peninsula District. Chapman is one of several key returners from last year’s squad that fell short to eventual state champion Phoebus.

“Keeping everybody together. That’s what a lot of teams have to do,” Chapman said. “Working hard in the field, in the weight room, and in the classroom.”
