BREMERTON, Wash. (KLTV) - Athens’ team roper Lightning Aguilera won $17,230 across five rodeos last week.

The 10th-ranked team roper in the world brings his season earnings to $107,264. Aguilera joined East Texas Now on Wednesday to talk about his recent rides. He says he’s trying to make as much money as he can before the season ends.

“They were much needed,” Aguilera said. “The year ends here pretty quick, so it’s winning as much money as we can. We need to win to get in, so it’s come at a good time.”

Aguilera says his horse has been a game changer for him.

“My horse is awesome. Without him, I would not be in the situation I’m in,” said Aguilera. “Having him back and healthy has been a huge game changer for me, and he makes my job very easy.”
