PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria International Airport is receiving some help from the federal government.

U.S. Senators Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth announced Wednesday that PIA will get more than $7.6 million for infrastructure improvements.

The money will be used to rehabilitate and modernize taxiways for long-term stability, minimize foreign object debris, and upgrade lighting.

“By improving airport infrastructure, we are laying the foundation for increased connectivity and reliability,” Durbin said. “This federal funding for airports across Central Illinois will upgrade infrastructure, improve travel efficiency, and promote economic growth. I will continue working with Senator Duckworth to ensure our state’s regional airports have the necessary federal resources.”
