A grueling murder re-trial ended this week with a Baton Rouge man being convicted of killing his ex-girlfriend and the woman's new lover with a shotgun inside the couple's Tigerland apartment 4 1/2 years ago.
A jury of nine men and five women found Brian Alexander Lavigne guilty of two counts of second-degree murder following four days of testimony and about 2 1/2 hours of deliberations Monday night.
According to their verdict, he shot and killed LaQuincia Jackson, his 26-year-old ex-girlfriend, and her boyfriend of five years, 33-year-old Fredrick Hollins. Prosecutors said he killed the couple as they slept in their apartment in the 4600 block of Earl Gros Avenue the evening of Jan. 23, 2021, using a 12-gauge shotgun to shoot them both dead at point-blank range.
Investigators from th
