BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) - Binghamton Mayoral Candidate Miles Burnett released a statement calling for an open, community-driven process to select Binghamton's next Police Chief.
After the July 18th incident where current Police Chief Joe Zikuski's girlfriend allegedly harassed and hit two black teenagers while he was present, he was placed on administrative leave pending an outside investigation.
If Zikuski is dismissed, there are currently four potential Police Chief candidates who have passed the Civil Service exam.
Burnett, a Democrat, says the city should allow more time for candidates to take the exams so there are more choices for what he calls a once-in-a-generation decision.
