SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - A Mercy pediatric doctor recommends antibiotics and vaccinations if your kid is diagnosed with pertussis, also known as whooping cough.

This comes following a confirmed case of whooping cough at the Republic Early Childhood Center on Tuesday. School leaders stated that parents and faculty were informed almost immediately.

“Communication is our common goal for our community, and we want to make sure they feel informed, educated, and prepared for any current illnesses or diseases that are in our community,” said Republic Director of Health Ashton Rogers.

According to the letter sent to parents, the possible exposure date was August 20, but symptoms may appear at any time between now and September 10.
