The Issue: A presidential order that seeks to punish burning the American flag with one year in jail.

I am a Trump supporter, but his executive order criminalizing the burning of the flag is not only wrong, it’s a big political mistake ( “Split opinions on flag burn,” Aug. 27).

He should know it’s a First Amendment issue, plain and simple, and just because he doesn’t like it (and neither do I), people must still have the right to do it.

I could not believe how so many people were offended that President Trump could lock somebody up for burning the American flag.

Wake up — you burn our flag, you do the time.

I’m sick of the disrespect shown to our president and our country.

This is the first step in protecting a precious piece of America.
