HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) -- Warrick County Animal Control (WCAC) is out of money following an update from the Warrick County Commissioners.

According to animal control, WCAC has no money to purchase food, litter or supplies for the animals in the shelter. County Commissioners also informed animal control that they can no longer accept owner surrenders or stray animals.

Warrick County Animal Control Supervisor Monica Freeman says that the decision comes during a "nation-wide crisis."

"We have taken over 500 animals since the beginning of the year," Freeman said. "Double our total capacity and double our intake this time last year."

Freeman says that this decision is a burden on the community and public safety.
