A horrific act of violence at Annunciation Catholic School has left the city of Minneapolis reeling after a shooter opened fire on a morning Mass, killing two children and injuring 17 others before taking his own life. The tragedy has ignited a familiar and intense debate over gun control, with advocacy groups on opposing sides issuing starkly different reactions.

The shooter, identified by authorities as 23-year-old Robin Westman, a transgender woman, was armed with a rifle, shotgun, and pistol when he fired through the church windows at children and parishioners.

Police Chief Brian O’Hara described the act as “incomprehensible” and confirmed that Westman, who had no extensive criminal history, died by suicide
