OWENSBORO, Ky. (WEHT) -- The Owensboro YMCA celebrates the opening of its new infant and toddler child care program.

This has been in the planning stages over the past year and a half. Officials say this new child care will fill a big void in the community.

“Owensboro is a child care desert,” President and CEO of Owensboro YMCA Tom Bontranger said. “We’re at 38 slots currently. This is the first phase of three phases the YMCA is doing. And those 38 slots are gonna allow parents to work and know that their children are going to be kept in a safe and fun environment.”

The infant child care program will launch next week with a program for school aged children opening at the beginning of next year.
