The sound of a train horn is a daily backdrop in Lacombe — a reminder of the rail lines that cut through the community.
But beyond the familiar whistle lies real danger. Train yards and tracks are not shortcuts or playgrounds, and impatience or trespassing can carry a steep price.
Const. Nicholas Sahl, with the Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) police in Edmonton, says many people underestimate both the speed and the power of trains.
“They are putting themselves in danger by being on the tracks,” Sahl said. “Trains are really fast on the tracks and people don’t realize how fast it can be going through town.”
The consequences aren’t just life-threatening — they’re costly. Railway tracks are private property, and those caught trespassing or breaking the Railway Safety Act face fines th
