MANHATTAN, N.Y. (PIX11) -- Another transformation of Penn Station has begun.
U.S. Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy and Andy Byford, the former NYC Transit President, announced the next steps and timeline at the transit hub on Wednesday.
"It has to be more than bricks and mortar. It has to ooze excellence," Byford said.
Amtrak owns the transit hub. Byford is serving as special advisor to the agency's board of directors and will manage the redevelopment.
The federal government has awarded Amtrak a $43 million grant to get the transformational project started.
The officials took Amtrak's new Acela Train from Washington, D.C. and they arrived on time to provide some details.
