The Powerball jackpot climbed to an estimated $850 million ahead of Wednesday night’s drawing, reaching the sixth highest prize in the game’s history.
The drawing Wednesday is the 38th since the last Powerball jackpot was won in May by a California ticket. If a player wins after the drawing, they may receive an estimated $850 million split over 30 years or one lump sum payment of about $384 million cash value, both before taxes.
The jackpot broke into the top ten biggest in the games history in the last few drawings. The highest-ever winning Powerball jackpot occurred in November 2022 at $2.04 billion won in California, and the next highest came in at $1.765 billion in October 2023 also won in California.
The prize will pass into the fifth largest in the games history if no winner comes
