PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Arizona’s top prosecutor is taking on the parent company of Hefty, saying it misled consumers over its recycling claims.

Attorney General Kris Mayes announced on Wednesday that her office is suing Reynolds Consumer Products because the company has misrepresented its blue, clear and “recycling” trash bags.

She said the company advertised the bags as “ideal for collecting recyclable materials” when in fact plastic bags are usually not recyclable in Arizona cities and towns, including Phoenix. She said the items that are in the bags can’t be recycled either.
