PRAIRIE GROVE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Two decades ago, Hurricane Katrina devastated families and communities, forcing many to rebuild their lives, and one of those people is Prairie Grove Mayor David Faulk.
Twenty years ago, Faulk lived a typical suburban life in Chalmette, a small city near New Orleans.
Faulk and his family, which included their three sons and their newborn daughter, evacuated to Arkansas, thinking they would only be gone for a few days. When Faulk returned to Chalmette, he found his house under 12 feet of water.
It was located near where the levees broke in the 9th Ward. Faulk says water rushed in and submerged his house within seconds, changing his life forever.
