PHOENIX — An Arizona lawmaker and her daughter, who is a school board member, were allegedly escorted off Maryvale High School on Monday after they reportedly tried testing out of the campus's weapon detectors, district officials said.

One week following the fatal stabbing of a student on campus, state Rep. Lydia Hernandez reportedly visited the school with her daughter, Cassandra Hernandez, who is a Cartwright Elementary School District Governing Board member, and recorded themselves walking through detectors designed to detect harmful weapons.

According to a statement from the Phoenix Union High School District, the detectors' alarm was activated as Lydia Hernandez and her daughter each passed through, resulting in them handing over their bags to the security personnel.
