New court documents from the El Dorado County District Attorney’s Office allege the killing of Marissa Herzog was “willful, deliberate and premeditated.” CAL FIRE captain Darin McFarlin was arrested last Friday and named a person of interest. The filings say McFarlin and Herzog lived together. In a statement, CAL FIRE Chief Joe Tyler said the incident has profoundly affected personnel and does not reflect the department’s values. CAL FIRE placed McFarlin on unpaid administrative leave and pledged cooperation with the sheriff’s investigation.
