A celebration of one-time Park City resident John Dakin’s life is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 10, at 1 p.m. at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater in Vail, Colorado.

Dakin served as the U.S. Ski Team’s chief media officer in Park City from 1981 to 1986 before moving to Vail to work in the communications department for then-Vail Associates and a year later joined the Vail Valley Foundation, where he worked for the next 28 years as vice president of communications.

He was involved in snowsports communication throughout his career, beginning while attending the University of Colorado, Boulder, in the mid-’70s and through three World Alpine Ski Championships at Vail/Beaver Creek as well working in media relations during the 2002 Salt Lake City-Utah Games and the 2010 Games hosted by Vancouver
