MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - On Wednesday, Governor Tony Evers moved forward in his response to the recent significant storm and flood damage by requesting a federal disaster declaration from President Donald Trump, according to the governor’s office.

Preliminary assessments carried out by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Wisconsin Emergency Management (WEM) determined that over 1,500 residential structures were destroyed or severely damaged. The total damage is estimated to cost over $33 million, reported the state of Wisconsin.

The assessments began August 19 in the six Wisconsin counties primarily affected by the storms. These counties included Door, Grant, Milwaukee, Washington and Waukesha.
