NEWARK, N.J. (PIX11)-- The TSA is predicting a record number of air travelers during this long Labor Day weekend.

Part of the security you'll see at the area airports are the K-9 officers of the Port Authority Police Department. The PAPD has more than 40 highly trained dogs that specialize in explosive and narcotics detection.

Gregory Eppinger, who has been with the PAPD K-9 unit for three years, is paired up with Canine Jimi. He's a 3-year-old German Shepard named after Port Authority Police Officer James Parham, who died in the 9/11 attacks.

Eppinger said Canine Jimi is "always ready to go, I would almost say it borders on anxiety. To see a dog go 100 percent through a hot aircraft, for maybe 45 minutes at a consistent pace, is pretty impressive."
