METAIRIE, La. (Louisiana First) — Spencer Rattler may be the New Orleans Saints' starting quarterback, but that doesn't mean the black and gold have given up on Tyler Shough. The rookie gets one of the greatest gifts, time.

The second-round pick from Louisville was touted as the most NFL-ready QB in the draft, but that doesn't necessarily mean he is NFL-ready. Most rookie quarterbacks aren't and some of the best in the league today didn't start right away, like Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts. Even last year's third overall pick, New England Patriots' Drake Maye, didn't start Week 1.

Those quarterbacks got time to develop, and that's exactly what Shough gets to do as Rattler's backup.
