GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The shooting at a Minneapolis Catholic School that resulted in the deaths of children has shaken the nation, and health experts say the news can be especially hard on parents, as well as emergency workers.

Dr. Ben Abo is a physician and expert on EMS response.

He said that events like mass shootings can have a deep emotional impact on those responding to them.

“They might be responding, taking care of children when they have the children the same age at home, or it's in their neighborhood," Abo said.

Events involving children can be difficult for parents to explain to their children.

Brina Tiemeyer, director of clinical services at Wedgwood Christian Services said that there are signs to watch out for that can tell parents if the event is seriously impacting them
