Before Jakob Marsee got the biggest news of his life, he had to sweat out the MLB trade deadline.

Playing for the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, the Triple-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins, Marsee had gotten hot through the summer and was on the cusp on a potential call-up. Then the Marlins shipped outfielder Jesus Sanchez to the Astros on July 31, among other players, as part of a deadline-day deal. An outfielder himself, Marsee was scratched from the Jumbo Shrimp lineup that evening.

But the writing on the wall hadn’t come to a conclusion, and he anxiously sat and watched a 5-3 win over Columbus.
