ATLANTA — Clayton County added 2,400 residents between April 2024 and April 2025, pushing the county’s population to 306,615, according to 2025 population estimates recently released by the Atlanta Regional Commission.
Clayton’s growth picked up steam in the past year, growing at an average annual rate of 0.79%, compared to 0.3% a year earlier.
ARC relies on a range of data points to develop the population estimates, with an emphasis on the number of housing permits issued. In 2024, 865 building permits were issued in Clayton — including 405 single-family homes and 460 multi-family units.
The 11-county Atlanta region added 64,400 residents between April 2024 and April 2025, bringing the total population to 5,285,474, according to ARC’s population estimates. The 11-county region’s growth
