The North Bay Canoe Club (NBCC) sent seven athletes to this year’s National Championships in Regina, Saskatchewan.
While the team was smaller than usual due to the long travel distance, the athletes, their parents, and coach Justin Rancourt made the trek west looking for great results.
The first day of the competition on August 26 was largely single events with the NBCC represented in the U16 C1 200m and 1000m events by Haley Sebesta, Sophie Williams, and Evelyn Ross. Sebesta placed 15th overall in the 200m, just shy of the finals, and narrowly missed the 1000m final as well, finishing 11th in Canada.
Wes Clouthier raced in the U16 C1 200m and 1000m. In the 200m, he missed the final by an incredibly slim margin of just 0.03 seconds, also finishing 11th overall nationally.
