A preliminary report has been released concerning a plane crash in Greenwood that resulted in the death of Purdue graduate Anh-Thu Nguyen on July 30.

Nguyen, 44, was flying alone when her small plane crashed behind a Circle K in Greenwood. Fortunately, no one on the ground was hurt.

The National Transportation Safety Board said the airplane began a climbing left turn after takeoff, which lasted about 30 seconds. It then rapidly descended to the right, crashing near the Greenwood airport.

Nguyen, a Miami, Florida resident and flight instructor, was on a mission to fly around the globe and become the first Vietnamese woman to do so. She had been sharing updates about her journey online.

The investigation is ongoing, and the NTSB is expected to release more information once it concludes.
