Starting Sept. 2, visitors to Canyon View Park will not have access to the park throughout the night.

The City of Grand Junction has installed gates at Canyon View Park, which will begin to be locked after the park is closed in the evening to help prevent illegal activity and vandalism at the park.

Parks and Recreation Director Ken Sherbenou said the park has seen significant vandalism in the past, as well as drag racing that resulted in crashes that caused property damage and a fatality. However, so far this summer the city has not seen any additional serious incidents.

“Thankfully we haven’t seen significant issues of crashes or major vandalism, but activity is still at a level that is not acceptable,” Sherbenou said. “So we’re very much looking forward to the gates being yet another
