For decades, people passing by Edinburgh's Preston Street Primary School have all asked the same question: 'what on earth is that huge grey concrete structure in the middle of the playground?'.

Simply dubbed 'the structure' by pupils at the Southside primary school, the giant concrete frame takes up a sizeable chunk of the playground and looks totally out of place.

Efforts have been made to beautify the lower portion of the bizarrely-situated encumbrance with the school hanging up decorations from it and having spruced up its drab, grey pillars with bright and colourful murals.

Nevertheless, it still looks incongruous positioned between the Victorian school and the tenements on Dalkeith Road.

To the untrained eye, the two-storey structure looks like the abandoned skeleton of a building
