Week 1 of the area high school football season is over. The schedule starts getting bigger for Week 2.
That's because most of the state's other football teams (Class 11AAA, 11AA and 11A) are now set to open their seasons this week along with some other Class 11B and nine-man teams who had the opening week off.
Schools in west central Minnesota also will make their debuts.
This week marks the season openers for area Class 11AA schools Watertown and Aberdeen Central. Watertown, the defending state champion in the division, is rated No. 5, and hosts No. 4 Class 11AAA Sioux Falls Jefferson in its first-ever high school football game on the turf at revamped Allen Mitchell Athletic Complex. Aberdeen Central visits Pierre, which is ranked No. 1. Both games are scheduled for 7 p.m.
