At the Division III level in football, it’s not uncommon for a player to switch positions if the current one is not working out.
Wake Forest football coach Jake Dickert knows it firsthand.
Dickert, one of the most gifted athletes on his college University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point team, moved to wide receiver because he believed in his head coach.
John Miech convinced Dickert that the switch from quarterback to wide receiver was a way to get on the field.
“He was beaten out at quarterback, and I just told him, ‘Look, you are too good of an athlete to not be on the field,’” Miech recalled during a phone conversation earlier this week from Orlando, Florida.
Miech, 72, is retired following a 24-year career at Wisconsin-Stevens Point, where he racked up more than 150 wins.
“He was alway
