Grimsley quarterback Faizon Brandon is the first player to be chosen News and Record High School Football Player of the Week in 2025.

Brandon, a senior who’s committed to play at Tennessee, threw a touchdown pass in the opening quarter and scored the game-winning touchdown in overtime to lead the Whirlies to a 28-27 victory over West Charlotte in the Keep Pounding Football Classic in Charlotte last Friday.

Against the Lions, Brandon was 11-for-15 passing for 155 yards and a touchdown, and added 13 carries for 62 yards and that game-winning score.

Voting for the Player of the Week will take place every Monday-Wednesday throughout the season and the winners will be revealed every Thursday. Nominations are posted every Monday by noon on greensboro.com .
