DeKalb County Jail Employee Arrested, Another Fired Following Internal Investigation

Fort Payne, Ala. — An internal investigation at the DeKalb County Detention Center has led to the arrest of one employee and the termination of another, according to Sheriff Nick Welden.

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Thursday that the investigation began within the past 24 hours and remains active. The case is being handled in coordination with the DeKalb County Major Crimes Unit and the District Attorney’s Office.

Details about the charges or circumstances surrounding the employees have not yet been released.

Sheriff Welden said the decision was difficult but necessary to maintain public trust.
