The Shake It Off hitmaker announced her engagement to her American footballer boyfriend, Travis Kelce, on Tuesday after two years of dating by sharing pictures from his proposal in a rose-filled garden. The Love You Like a Love Song singer, who has been close friends with Taylor since they were teenagers, reacted to the news on Wednesday night by reposting the announcement on her Instagram Stories. She added, "When bestie gets engaged," with a loved-up emoji. Selena, who is also engaged, then reflected on how far they've come since their Twitter exchange about love back in 2009. "Discussing love with two 9 yr olds. That's what love supposed to be. Truly amazing, I'm never leaving Canada," Selena wrote at the time, to which Taylor replied, "Real love still happens sometimes. It's not just something we make up when we're nine. I have to believe that. You do too." A fan reposted the exchange with side-by-side photos from Selena and Taylor's engagement announcements and added, "16 years later." The Only Murders in the Building star shared the post on her Stories and simply added an emotional face emoji.
