NHS alert as people with common illness urged to take advantage of new scheme

From the start of next month, thousands of people in England will be encouraged to take advantage of a new scheme, starting September 1, to get an important vaccine. As of next week, approximately 300,000 additional people will be eligible for a potentially life-saving shingles vaccine, as GPs commence administering the jab to protect all severely immunosuppressed adults.

NHS England said in a post on X: "From 1 September, all severely immunosuppressed adults aged 18 years and over will be able to get the shingles vaccine from their GP. The vaccine significantly reduces the chance of developing shingles – protecting thousands more people most at risk."
