BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) -- LSU coach Jay Johnson said Wednesday the championship-winning baseball team has been invited to the White House.

The Tigers defeated Coastal Carolina in Game 2 of the series finals, 5-3, earning their eighth College World Series title. The win was Johnson's second national title in three seasons at LSU.

"I'm excited and I know our players are excited about that," Johnson said, adding that a date for the visit has not yet been determined.

In another celebration, he said players will get their championship rings on Oct. 25, the same day as the LSU vs. Texas A&M football game.

Looking ahead to the next season, players will participate in drills and strength training for the next six weeks before fall practice with the full squad starting Oct. 9. The t
