TYBEE ISLAND, Ga. (WSAV) — It's been a messy summer on Tybee Island - literally. After yet another sewage spill over last weekend, Island leaders are planning an update tonight on what's being done to fix the problem.

This is the third sewage spill in just three months, and it all happened in the same area. City crews have been racing to patch aging pipes, but with recent, continued heavy rainfall, the situation remains urgent. Officials say they're investing heavily in long-term solutions.

Saturday's storm dumped more than 5 inches of rain on already saturated ground, pushing rainwater into the city's aging sewer system through cracked pipes and private laterals.
