In one day earlier this month, Gov. Andy Beshear announced Kentucky would join several other states in two separate lawsuits pushing back against orders from President Donald Trump’s administration.

One name missing from news releases touting the moves was Attorney General Russell Coleman, Kentucky’s chief legal officer.

Coleman, a Republican who took office last year , and Beshear, the only Democrat currently in a statewide elected position, stand on opposite sides of many ideological spectrums. While Coleman is a staunch Trump supporter who spent his first year in the role opposing several actions by then-President Joe Biden, Beshear — who’s considering a potential 2028 presidential run — has openly opposed many of the current president's moves.
