Negotiations between the Army and the state of Hawaii over land leases that expire in 2029 are moving forward amid intensifying scrutiny.
Gov. Josh Green says that he’s trying to work with the Pentagon to secure benefits for Hawaii and said that if he doesn’t play ball on moving forward, the military simply may take the land.
On Thursday, Army Secretary Dan Driscoll sent Green’s office a letter calling on the state to move fast on negotiations. The letter eased off from a 60-day timeline to secure an agreement that Driscoll suggested in an interview with the Honolulu Star-Advertiser published Sunday, but still made clear that Driscoll would like to see an agreement this year.
