WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — Some Houston County elementary school students are getting an early start on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

This school year, the district added computer science rotations at six schools: Kings Chapel Elementary, Langston Road Primary, Lake Joy Primary, Lake Joy Elementary, Quail Run Elementary and Centerville Elementary.

Elgin Mayfield, the district’s assistant superintendent for teaching and learning, said the expansion is part of a long-term effort to build STEM pathways from the earliest grades through high school.

“This is the beginning of a pilot that we’re hoping to expand districtwide as time goes along,” Mayfield said. “We want to make sure children are exposed to STEM and computer science earlier and earlier, because that is the era
