Numbers show a decrease of more than twice what the district had predicted.
The district had built its budget assuming a decline of about 3,000 students, but current estimates show an additional drop of 3,600 students a couple of weeks into the new school year.
At the school board meeting this week, Deputy Superintendent Michael Armbruster said this could lead to an estimated $25 million reduction in funding.
"We are already collaborating with schools to make sure no school is cut more than necessary, but just needed to make you aware that we've got a burden to carry right now, but we're working to carry it," Armbruster said.
