CASCADE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A driver died after a fiery crash on M-6 in Cascade Township, state police say.

It happened around 5:40 p.m. Wednesday on M-6 east of Broadmoor Avenue.

The driver, a 63-year-old Grand Rapids man, was heading west when he went off the road and hit a pole, according to the Michigan State Police. Another driver, who was passing by, managed to pull the man from the car as it caught fire, troopers said.

They said the man was taken to the hospital, where he died. His name was not immediately released.

"Please keep this family in your thoughts," MSP wrote in a release.

Troopers continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
