This season is not exactly the most exciting playoff chase we’ve seen. Braves aside, there aren’t really many “races,” so it’s not really a hyper-exciting stretch run.
In the AL, the playoff entrants are almost wrapped up, with an outside chance for the Royals to maybe sneak in at the expense of the Yankees, Red Sox, or whoever doesn’t win the AL West. That AL West situation is an actual race, but the stakes for not winning aren’t very high; the Yankees might hope they can still catch the Blue Jays, but their chances aren’t very good. There’s some chance the Rangers or Guardians make a huge run in September, but it’s really unlikely.
The NL is even worse in this regard, as six teams have playoff odds north of 96 percent, and the Reds are basically sopping the rest, though they’re 4.5 gam
