EXCELSIOR SPRINGS, Mo.— 2 die in crash of plane traveling from Washington, Mo.: Two people died after a small plane crashed and was consumed by fire shortly before noon Wednesday in Excelsior Springs in western Missouri, authorities said.
Online flight tracking data indicates the plane took off from Washington, Missouri, and was to land at the airport where the crash happened.
The plane, a Cessna 340, crashed in a soybean field, according to the Clay County sheriff's office. The plane was landing at the airport at the time of the crash.
Authorities did not immediately release the names of the victims. A report from KRCR, a Kansas City TV station, indicates the plane was registered to Mark Spelts, founder and CEO of Spelts Wealth Management, located in Chico, California.
