MARSHALL COUNTY, W. Va. (WTRF) - Former West Virginia Senator Michael Maroney appeared in Marshall County Magistrate Court Wednesday morning for his pre-trial hearing.

Prosecuting Attorney Joe Canestraro says Maroney waived his right to a trial in magistrate court. The next step will be setting a date for trial in circuit court.

Maroney is accused of driving while under the influence and has entered a not guilty plea.

This week’s appearance follows a series of legal developments in his case. In April 2025, Magistrate Zachary Allman revoked Maroney’s bond for not complying with conditions and reset it at $1,500 cash only. Allman also ordered Maroney to enroll in an inpatient rehabilitation program.
