OPELIKA, Ala. (WTVM) - More than two years after plans were unveiled for a new shopping center in Opelika, the site remains undeveloped—and many residents are still waiting for the city’s first Publix.

The Perryman Hill development, announced in May 2023, is set to bring 65,000 square feet of retail space to the southwest corner of Veterans Parkway and U.S. Highway 280. Nearly 49,000 square feet will be reserved for Publix, according to the project’s developer, MAB American Management LLC, which has constructed several grocery store-anchored shopping centers across the Southeast.

Publix was originally expected to open sometime in 2025.
