A 26-year-old North Vancouver man is going to have some serious explaining to do and pay a hefty fine after getting his mother’s Lamborghini Gallardo impounded for speeding.

The grey Lamborghini was stopped by police on June 1 at 1:15 p.m. on Highway 3 south of Princeton.

The RCMP highway patrol clocked the car at 130 km/h in an 80 km/h zone, the Mounties said in a news release Tuesday.

Speeding more than 40 km/h over the limit is an automatic vehicle impound, says Cpl. Michael McLaughlin, a spokesman with B.C. Highway Patrol.

“The driver said he was on his way to a racetrack. Had he driven more responsibly, he could have had a great day at the track. Instead, he had an awkward conversation with mom,” he said.
